Don’t fear failure
Everyone falls down once in a while. Failure is accepted here, even encouraged. It means you’re chasing after something. Be vulnerable, because we’re all fallible. Get up and keep going.
While we seek to love everybody well, sometimes, decisions demand we serve certain people before others. At Journeyage, our priorities are clear—employees, users, customers, community, partners, shareholders. While this order strikes some as unusual, we firmly believe that if we serve our employees first, everything else follows.
Exercise good judgement
Judgment calls are needed every day. We give every employee substantial freedom at Journeyage, but in doing so, we expect everyone to exercise their best judgment and make the right decisions. That takes effort.
Find a way
We must thrive at solving problems and figuring out how to make things happen for our teams, our users, and our customers, whatever it takes. As they say in startup land, done is better than perfect. Have a bias for action and do what’s needed next.
Love and learn
Our purpose at Journeyage is simple to state, but it’s by no means simple. Rather than live and learn, we believe our ultimate purpose is to love and learn. We are committed to learning to love, just as much as we love to learn.
Move forward, fast
Progress is all we ask for. No standing still. Detours might veer us a bit off course at times, so long as we’re all moving forward without distraction toward our objectives. Don’t stop.
Simplicity is the name of the game. Don’t overcomplicate things. Grow wisely. Stay agile. Avoid debt. Eliminate bureaucracy. While complexity will grow over time, it’s important it doesn’t cripple us.
Pursue the horizon
This is a journey, not a race. There is no final destination on our map. We are trailblazers in the way of loving and learning, which has no end in sight. Keep pursuing what matters most.
Sales are what will keep our procession moving forward. If we can’t sell valuable offerings, we can’t continue loving and learning with the rest of our wayfinding tribe. Everyone must build their selling muscles, regardless of their department, title, personality, or comfort level.
This isn’t about any one person–or even Journeyage. It’s about serving our users and customers every single day. To continue fostering a healthy culture, it requires everyone to leave their egos behind and consider others as more important than themselves.
Success isn’t the product of our own genius or hard work alone. We are all recipients and beneficiaries of life itself, so let’s be sure to not hoard anything. Sharing our skills, talents, abilities, and resources with one another is a core part of our identity.
If we can’t solve the right problems (keyword being “right”), we have no business being in business. Build, measure, learn, and repeat—that’s how we do it. Iteration based on learning is crucial to our success. There’s no limit to the number of solutions we can develop together.
Life is much more than work, but the work you do here will impact your entire life. We want to make sure everyone keeps well—and that extends beyond the physical. We’re all for your holistic health.
There is no place for a hero culture here. Lone wolves won’t make it far with us. We must collaborate as a unified and diverse team, and that goes for how we work with all our cojourners. In the words of Walt Whitman, “We were together. I forgot the rest.”
